With its powerful red blush and bright variegations, Stromanthe Sanguine offers an eye-catching presence that can redirect the focus of any collection away from any flaws and towards its fabulous complexities.
The long, philodendron-esque leaves grow at the ends of long stems and takes on a bush shape as it grows larger. Most of the red coloring happens on the bottom of the leaves, which further accents the bright variegations on top.
Propagate easily by dividing the roots in spring after withholding water for 2 days.
Lighting: Medium to bright indirect
Water: Keep the soil moist, water after top inch of soil has dried. Mist frequently. Do not allow to dry out.
Soil/Potting: Plant in a well draining soil (cactus mix or potting soil and sand 1:1) in a container with a drainage hole and made of slightly porous material like ceramic. Keep soil shallow to allow for proper drying. Repot annually or when plant exhibits discoloration without the presence of any mis-watering habits
Fertilize: Monthly with bacterial inoculant recomended for steady growth and to promote flowering
Temperature: Room temp, protect from harsh fluctuations in temperature particularly in the winter
Toxicity: Non-toxic for humans and pets; still definitely not tasty..
