April Succulent - Adromischus cristatus

April Succulent - Adromischus cristatus

Key Lime or Adromischus cristatus are originally from South Africa.  They have thick, fan shaped crinkled leaves and are also sometimes called Crinkle Leaf Succulents. Like most succulents Key Lime Succulents enjoy warmth and sunlight and will do well in a sunny window with high drainage soil. If you place your succulents outside in the summer, remember to bring them in at night so they don’t get too cold. If you are in an area that gets a lot of direct sun and heat, some afternoon shade may be beneficial to keep your Key Lime Succulent from getting sunburned.

Light

Key Lime Succulents  like high, direct light. Place them near windows that get at least a few hours of direct sunlight to help them keep their compact shape. Remember to transition into direct light slowly to avoid sun-burning your plant. Don’t get enough light in your home? Grow lights have become more compact and easier to use than ever. We recommend these if you need a grow light bulb.

Water

During the growing season water when the soil is dry and the leaves are looking somewhat shriveled – about once a week . In the winter when your Key Lime succulent is dormant, let the soil dry out entirely in-between watering.  Having good drainage is essential to the happiness of succulents. Planting in a small well-draining container with cactus mix or a moderately dry blend of potting soil and sand will help you avoid over watering. If you have a pot with a hole and a dish under it make sure to empty water from the dish afterwards.

Fertilizing

Key Lime Succulents can be fertilized during  growing season by adding an organic fertilizer to your weekly watering. They do not require fertilizer during it’s dormant season.

Long Term Care

Fertilize the soil you plant your Key Lime Succulents in and you can go many years without having to repot them. They are a low maintenance and easy plant and will continue to thrive as long as you keep them warm and dry.
