Soil & Root Issues
๐ก This is the foundation behind most plant issues we see in the shop.

Most issues at this stage require looking at the rootsโwe can do that for you.

Start with what you're seeing
๐ฑ Not Growing / Looks Stuck
โก Start here
- Slow growth isnโt always a problemโit can be seasonal
- If growth has stalled long-term, something is limiting the plant
๐ What this tells us
Plants grow when three things are working together:
- light
- root health
- available space
If one of these is off, growth slows or stops.
๐ What to Check Next
Step 1: Check light first
- Is it getting enough light for its type?
- Is it stretching or leaning?
Step 2: Look at root space
- Has it been in the same pot for a long time?
- Is it drying out very quickly?
Step 3: Check soil condition
- Is the soil compacted or broken down?
- Is water moving through it evenly?
๐ What this usually means
Leggy or stretched growth
โ Not enough light
No growth + drying quickly
โ Likely root-bound
No growth but otherwise stable
โ Seasonal slowdown
No growth + inconsistent soil behavior
โ Soil or root issue
โ ๏ธ If things suddenly changed
If your plant was doing fine and stops growing (and also isn't Winter) this can be an early sign of root decline.
Thatโs usually not something you can fully confirm without checking the roots.
๐ Bring it in and weโll figure out whatโs going on together
๐ฑ What you can try
- Increase light exposure or supplement if needed
- Repot if roots are crowded
- Refresh soil if itโs compacted or inconsistent
๐ฟ Growth usually returns once conditions are aligned
๐ Tools we use in the shop
If youโre adjusting this, these are the tools we use:
Bacterial Ionculant
Support root function and improve how soil holds and releases moisture

๐ฑ Soil & Root Behavior
โก Start here
- Most plant issues come back to how water is moving through the soil
- If the soil isnโt behaving normally, the roots wonโt either
๐ What this tells us
Soil controls two critical things:
- how water moves
- how much oxygen reaches the roots
Healthy roots need both.
When that balance is off, plants struggle, even if everything else seems right.
๐ What to Check Next
Step 1: Observe watering behavior
- Does water soak in evenly?
- Or run straight through?
Step 2: Track drying time
- How long does it stay wet after watering?
- Is that consistent?
Step 3: Check structure
- Does the soil feel dense or compacted?
- Has it broken down over time?
๐ What this usually means
Water runs straight through
โ Soil may be hydrophobic or no longer holding moisture
Stays wet too long
โ Soil is too dense or holding more water than the plant can use
Dries unevenly
โ Soil structure has broken down
Behavior has changed recently
โ Early root decline or soil breakdown
โ ๏ธ If things suddenly changed
If water suddenly runs right through your plant or takes oddly long to come out of the bottom this is likely an early sign of root issues.
Thatโs usually not something you can fully confirm without checking the roots.
๐ Bring it in and weโll figure out whatโs going on together
๐ฑ What you can try
- Refresh or replace soil
- Adjust your mix for better airflow and moisture balance
- Repot if the current setup isnโt working
๐ฟ Healthy soil creates stable, predictable conditions for roots
