Yes, this plant does grow bananas that you can eat! They're a beautiful red banana that exhibit sunset colors as they ripen.
This banana plant stays short and doesn't take up much room overall, growing a few very large leaves but not filling out its canopy completely. The stems are a beautiful red that contrasts with the dark lime green of the leaves. It takes about 24 months for the bananas to come in once the plant is of an appropriate size, but they're world-renowned for being extra delicious and are well worth the wait.
Lighting: Bright direct.
Water: Keep soil evenly moist, but don't allow for standing water.
Soil/Potting: Plant in a well draining soil in a container with a drainage hole and made of slightly porous material like ceramic or sealed concrete. Repot annually or when plant exhibits discoloration without the presence of any mis-watering habits.
Fertilize: Monthly with bacterial inoculant recommended for steady growth and to promote richer coloration in the foliage.
Temperature: Room temp (60-85 degrees is ideal), protect from harsh fluctuations in temperature particularly in the winter.
