Monstera 'Swiss Cheese Plant'
Monstera are very popular house plants, with good reason! These fast growing trailing or climbing plants will do best in bright indirect light (but they will tolerate even fairly low light settings, they will just respond by growing smaller leaves) and prefer their soil to dry out most of the way between waterings. Higher humidity will also help this plant grow faster and produce larger leaves!
Did you know there’s a good reason for the trademark holes in their leaves? Monstera grow naturally in tropical rainforest climates. By developing holes in its leaves, the Monstera is better suited to withstand heavy rainfall and wind as they let the elements pass through the holes. These odd hole-y leaves is what inspired the botanical name of this genus, monstera means strange in Latin!
