The rubber tree, or Ficus Elastica, is a source of naturally occuring latex in all parts of the plant. While this can't be used commercially to make rubber, it does mean that it's a very interesting plant to add to your collection!
The large, dark leaves grow steadily upwards and outwards, eventually forming a tree shape if allowed to grow to a very large size. The leaves are very rigid, and new leaves are shiny before turning matte as they mature. In nature, this plant can grow to be up to 200 feet tall!
Propagate easily by placing a cutting into water and allow to root.
