This plant is very popular for two reasons: instead of dying in low light, it simply doesn't grow very much (a trait that means you rarely have to do any repotting or trimming), and it's reasonably forgiving of any mistakes that new plant parents might make when getting to know it.
It does best in a medium light, and even in that it doesn't grow very much or very fast! It wants to be watered only once the top 3/4 of the soil has dried out, even if that's two weeks or longer. The one stipulation this plant has is that it's sensitive to the impurities found in tap water, but that's easy to work around - simply leave the water that you're going to give it out overnight uncovered, and the impurities in the tap water will evaporate away!
